“And he said, Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.”

Luke 4:24 – "And he said, Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place."

You have changed and people don't like it. Family, friends associates, they do not like the person you are trying to become and they don't like the fact that you have realized that you ARE a true Son and Daughter of God. In as much as they may say certain things, you can be certain that it will be hard for you to be accepted in your own home, among your friends and family. Change is hard, especially when others around you are unwilling to change. People want comfort and they are comfortable in their own ways. God is trying to get you UNCOMFORTABLE and get those around you uncomfortable with their own lives, sinfulness and sadness. Don't let anyone bring you down this day. I understand 150% how you feel as not being accepted in your own Church, but that is okay… Jesus was not accepted either… so we both are in good company, right? Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and there is no doubt, so keep on preaching, keep on serving and keep on loving those who despise you, those who do not believe that you have changed, pray for them… that they also may change, for the greater Glory of God!

Blessings and Peace to you today and remember – KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!

“Be doers of the word and not hearers only…”

James 1:22 "Be doers of the word and not hearers only…"

"The Frozen Chosen" is what many of us are. We go to Church out of 'Obligation' and/or guilt. I was dragged as a child; kicking and screaming by my mother… thank the Lord. We sit in Church and if we are not sleeping or looking at our watches, wondering; "How much longer", we sometimes listen and hear the Word of God, but yet we fail to DO what He tells us. I am not perfect… FAR FROM IT, none of us are and we all have hard days to where we fall down, but today is a new day. It is a new beginning. No matter how many times we have fallen down, God wants us to get right back up and continue to be DOERS of His Word. He is Able to do ALL things through Christ, so stop playing God and saying "I can't do it" and get up and as my mother always said to me; "JUST DO IT!" God's blessings are in the DOING of His Works and they are waiting for you, so go get em'!

Blessings and Peace to you and KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!

“Nevertheless we urge you, brothers and sisters, to progress even more, and to aspire to live a tranquil life...”

I Thes 4:10-11 "Nevertheless we urge you, brothers and sisters, to progress even more, and to aspire to live a tranquil life..."

When I first started preaching on the street corners, some people would nickname me "John the Baptist." At first, I kind of liked the nickname, but then I said; "Wait a minute, he was beheaded… I am not sure if I am liking that name much right about now." Nevertheless, St. Paul extorts for us all… he urges us to progress more in our lives. Just as St. John the Baptist was sent here to be the precursor of the Messiah, we too are now sent. Sent to go and proclaim the Glory of God through the Works of Jesus Christ. We must progress in our learning of Scripture, progress in our learning of Theology, but not forgetting to progress in loving our fellow brothers and sisters. You need to ensure that you make this a 'Tranquil' day in your life, make peace amid the storm, calm against the waves and love against hatred. God will be smiling upon you as you go about this progress in your life today. Just as John the Baptist was called, so are you called to make Disciples.

Blessings and Peace to you and remember… KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!

“Rejoice in the Lord, you just, and praise his holy name.”

Psalm 97:12 "Rejoice in the Lord, you just, and praise his holy name."

"I don't feel like I am worthy and just in the Lord…"; this is a statement I have heard throughout the years of ministry. Many just don't feel like they are worthy of the Lord's Grace and Mercy. I am here to tell you that "all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God." (Romans 3:32) Through the redemption of Christ Jesus, we are justified freely by the Grace of God! Tell yourself, "I have been made worthy, through the Redemption of Jesus!" God loves you so very much and He sent His Son, so you would not have to suffer and die in your own sinfulness. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, give you His Grace, and make it a GREAT DAY!

“So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

Matt 24:43-44 – "So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."

Are you prepared? What if you dropped dead right now, and God said, "I will give you the desires of your heart?" What would He give you… your personal belongings, your car, your play things? God commands us to forsake everything else, for the Love of Him, to love and serve Him with all of our being. Do you love God with all your being, all your soul and all of your heart? Make another commitment to Loving Him today with all of your heart… no matter what you will face, know that He is always with you and by your side. Love Him with all your heart, because He first loved you, even before He created the world, He knew you and Loved YOU!

“Where can I hide from your spirit? From your presence, where can I flee?”

Psalm 137: 7 "Where can I hide from your spirit? From your presence, where can I flee?"

"You can run, but you can't hide!" I have no clue where this phrase came from, but it is truly Prophetic in God's word. Many times we try to run from God, run away from His Word, run away from doing His Will. We get caught up in doing stuff, work, kids, play… we continue to run from God and try to hide from Him, but He sees everything. God is the creator of all, the beginning and end of all things so no matter how hard we try to run from Him and His will, we cannot escape the indomitable Love God has for us. He loves you… today… every day… JUST THE WAY YOU ARE and just where you are in your life right now. It does not matter how low you think you are, nor how high or how much you think of yourself. He loves us all equally and without condition. Don't hide from Him and His Will… don't run from what God is speaking to you in your life right now. God can write straight the crooked lines we write in our lives… let Him guide you today and every day.

“Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.”

Matt 23:26 – "Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean."

Jesus spoke these words to the Scribes and Pharisees, criticizing them for being hypocrites, for saying one thing yet doing another… not practicing what they preach. One of the very first rules for Evangelization I always speak about is, "we must Evangelize ourselves first, before we can evangelize others." If you do not know who God is in your life, then your works for the Kingdom are ineffective. You must truly know that God is the Great I AM; that His Son, Jesus Christ, is "with Him, in Him, in unity with the Holy Spirit", and that God sent His only Son to die… just for YOU! If you were the only person in existence throughout the course of history, He still would have done what He did… JUST FOR YOU! What an AWESEOME God we serve! Clean your insides today, ask God to forgive your sin's this morning, accept His forgiveness and start your day with a cup that is clean on the inside, so others will see you are clean also on the outside!

God's continued blessings to you today, be encouraged and always… KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!

“You, LORD, are near to all who call upon you, to all who call upon you in truth.”

Psalm 145:18 – "You, LORD, are near to all who call upon you, to all who call upon you in truth."

Many days we feel so far away from God, and we just don't know why. We feel abandoned, wounded, hurt, with our insides exposed to the world…vulnerable for all to see. Pick it up again today! Pick up your Cross, just as Jesus picked up His and carried it. We must always make a conscious effort to follow Him EVERY DAY. Yes it gets hard some days, but if it were easy, we would not appreciate Him. We have to have that daily Pentecost in our lives, we have to accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, each day; we have to accept and just as our Blessed Mother Mary said "Yes" to God's Will, we too must follow that same example and each day, say "Yes Lord, Your servant is listening." Make your conversion right now, ask Jesus to once again come into your life and be your source of Strength, your Light and your Beacon of Hope.

God's continued blessings to you this day and every day and don't forget…. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!!!

“Blessed are you who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored.”

Psalm 128:1-2 "Blessed are you who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored."

Have you ever had someone respond to your question of "How are you?" They respond "Blessed and Highly Favored!" Sometimes it bothers me because it seems as if the respondent is putting themselves over others in saying that, but I always let them know "Yes, you ARE Blessed and Highly Favored; so have you Blessed someone yet today?" You are blessed to be a blessing to someone else each and every day. Today, find someone to bless, not necessarily monetarily, but Spiritually. Mother Teresa always said; "You can save someone's Soul with just a smile." Take time to seek out someone to Smile to and with; speak a Word of Life into their heart. Call a friend you have not spoken to in a long time and say hello, seek out someone NEW in your life and say hello. In doing this, your handiwork will come back to you a hundred fold. You ARE Blessed and Highly Favored by the Lord…so be a Blessing to someone else and Give them God's Favor.

“… and one of them a scholar of the law, tested him by asking...”

Matt 22:34-35 "… and one of them a scholar of the law, tested him by asking..."

"Don't you test me boy!" I smile now when I think of how stupid I was when I was a young man (at that age I use that term very loosely), trying to put my mother to the test when I thought I was a man. We go through life facing tests in education, testing to get into High School, College, even testing for specific jobs we are seeking. Life is always a test, somewhat a test of your faith, and others, friends, family members, and acquaintances will test you especially on the journey you are on now to deepen your faith. Remember that even Jesus was tested by those who were scholars of the law during His time, and Jesus persevered. You will be tested today, either by your family, your job, or even in your loneliness today, you will be tested; remember the answer to the test is this… "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment." Did you pass the test? Do you love Him? Go and tell somebody today to ensure they also pass the test!

“Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

Matt 22:14 "Many are invited, but few are chosen."

If you are reading this, you have been invited, invited to the Great Feast. Christ Likened the Kingdom of Heaven (in a Parable) to that of a King who gave a Wedding Feast for His Son; the king sent out invitations by his servants and some ignored the invitation and went away. You have been invited! Do not ignore your invitation any longer, and it is your duty, matter of fact, you have been commanded (Matt 28:19) by Jesus Christ to go out into the streets and invite others to the feast. Like the King commanded his servants in the parable, you are to invite anyone and everyone, the Bad and the Good alike. It is not up to you who should know about the Good News that you know of, you are not the Judge. The King, King Jesus will be the Judge when He comes again in Glory, to Judge the Living and the Dead. Your job today and everyday is to tell someone about Jesus. Tell someone you don't know that Jesus Loves them, and you do as well. Today I want you to choose to invite someone else to the Wedding Feast, because "Many are invited, but few are chosen."

Many Blessings and Peace to you this day and everyday in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; and don't forget – "KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!"

“… are you envious because I am generous?”

Matt: 20:15 "… are you envious because I am generous?"

Jesus said this to His disciples in the Parable of the Landowner, in which the Last laborers of the day received the same wages of those who had labored in the heat for all day. Sometimes we get envious of others belongings, others ministries, others who have succeeded in areas we have tried for so long and yet they have labored much less that we have, but yet they receive the promotions, accolades, and other things we desire because of our hard work. Do not go another day being envious of someone else's things or their anointing, God generously gives His ALL TO ALL; you must decide today to give your ALL TO ALL that God brings across your path today. You are anointed and appointed by God, so don't worry about what others have; your job is to take care of those who 'have not' received the Gospel, those who have not received the Love of Jesus Christ! You are BLESSED to be a Blessing to someone today! Bless them, unconditionally and let the Lord continue to bless you even more in your Love!

Blessed be the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ – Now and Forever more… Let the Church say… amen, Amen and AMEN!

“…but for God all things are possible!”

Matt 19:26 "…but for God all things are possible!"

Often times we think that we are the makers of our way in life and our destiny is in our own hands, and that is partially correct. God has a plan… a Divine Plan for each of our lives and we must know it, understand it and put it into action. Many times over the course of our lives we have gone right when God said, go left… we have created road blocks, but we must understand that God writes straight with the crocked lines of our own lives. We get ourselves in so deep, we feel it impossible to get out of the mess we have made, but St. Paul tells us when we are weak, that is when Christ is strong within us. NOTHING is impossible for God, we must understand that. Put your problems, issues and worries in His Hand RIGHT NOW and call it DONE, in Jesus Name, and Live for God today. Ask Him, right now, to direct your path and He will, for nothing is impossible for God, "All things are possible through Christ Jesus!"

Blessings and Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be unto you and your family,

“If you wish to be perfect…”

Matt 19: 21-22 "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Stuff…most of us have a bunch of STUFF, grown up toys and things that we cherish and sometimes worship. You can't take it with you! Don't get attached to stuff… get attached to Jesus. He tells us not focus on possessions, but focus on Him and following His model. Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, everything else is a cakewalk. Your prayer today; "Lord, you gave me all of this stuff and I know that you can take it away at any time. I ask you to never take away the Greatest Gift you gave me, Your Son, Jesus. I make Him my focus this day… walk with me Lord, talk with me Lord, let my focus today and everyday be always on Jesus!"

“The Purple Butterfly”

"The Purple Butterfly"

The color purple is a Royal color. During the time of Christ it was worn by both men and women and throughout history it even symbolized powerful Empires. The Butterfly is such a beautiful creation of God. Some say Butterfly's represent new beginnings. It goes through a metamorphosis, from a Caterpillar, being cocooned within it, to flying freely and magnificently. Let this day be a day of a New Beginning for you in Christ, as you allow Him to complete His metamorphic transformation in you, putting on a New Self in Christ Jesus. You are a Royal Gift of God who created you for this day; sore freely without bounds, giving the Love of Christ to others. (Special note – I love you, my Papeon; you are my Royal Gift from God)

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."

Luke 1:38 – "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."

YES! It took the 'yes' of a Jewish Virgin who was told by an Angel of the Lord that she would give birth to the Savior of the World. It required her consent, her saying yes to the working of God in her life, so that eternal salvation could come into the world. Each day we also must follow Mary's example and say 'yes' to the Lord in our life. You have been give a Gift from God and it is up to you to understand that Gift, nurture and grow it so that others may be blessed by God, through you! You ARE the handmaid of the Lord… take time and say YES to God once more in your life and tell him… "May Your Will be done to me according to Your Word."

“Praise the LORD, who is so good; God's love endures forever;”

Psalm 136:1 – "Praise the LORD, who is so good; God's love endures forever;"

"God is good all the time…!" He is good to us even when we are not good to Him and to ourselves. He continues to be Good and Merciful to us when we turn our backs to Him in committing sin each day, but His Mercy and Goodness endures forever. How great is our God that He loves us just where we are in life's journey. The old saying is "hate the sin, but love the sinner" and this is just what the Lord does for us. He hates our sinfulness, but loves each and every one of us equally and without condition, no matter where we are in life and what we have done. Praise Him today for the Love He has for you where you are today, and continue to grow in His Word, because His Word has been indelibly imprinted upon your heart.

“Be patient with me…”

August 13th

Matthew 18:21 – 19:1 "Be patient with me…"

We live in a society where Patience is lacking. Fast paced, fast food, at your fingertips is what we want and we want it all now. We fail so many times to forgive others, but yet we want to be forgiven for our sins and debts. Jesus tells us to forgive "not seven times but seventy-seven times." Forgiveness is a Grace from God, because none of us are worthy of God's forgiveness, but only through His Grace and Mercy are we truly forgiven. Forgive someone who has wronged you today. Be patient today when confronted with that person who is 'working your last nerve' and ask the Lord to fill you with the Grace of patience. If you wish to be forgiven, you must ensure to forgive others. Just stop, pray, listen, forgive and keep on keepin' on!

Blessings and Peace to you!

“… praise was on the tip of my tongue.”

Psalm 66:16-17 - Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare what he has done for me. … praise was on the tip of my tongue.

Put a Praise on your tongue! Recognize what God has done for you; He gave you life; He gave you shelter; He gave you the Gift of Praise. When you appeal to God in prayer for supplications we Give Praise, Honor and Glory to Him for everything He has done for us and all that He will do for us, so always, put a praise on your tongue, because someone is going to need a Word today. A Word of Blessing; thanksgiving; a Word of encouragement and this is YOUR day to be a Blessing to someone else. Bless them with the Praise of the Glory of the Father in your life, to encourage them to seek Him for strength, understanding, wisdom and peace.

It is the LORD, your God, who will cross before you;

Dt 31:3 – "It is the LORD, your God, who will cross before you; he will destroy these nations before you..."

Moses was 120 years old when he told the Israelites that he was no longer able to move about freely. Basically, the brother was tired! We also get tired of not just wandering the desert, but fighting battles that do not belong to us. Resolve this day to let the Lord fight your battles for you. Choose to let the Lord step out for you today and let Him destroy all the evil that will befall you. The Evil One will stop at nothing to take the Joy the Lord has placed in your heart away from you, and you must say, "I am going to LIVE for the Lord today" and not allow anything to take away your joy, the Joy that you have in Christ Jesus.

“God is able to make every grace abundant for you...”

2 Cor. 9:8 –

He's Able! This should resonate in your mind all day today… He's ABLE! The Good work God has begun in you, through His Grace, He is able to do ALL things for you, Exceedingly, Abundantly and OVERWHELMINGLY… HE'S ABLE! When you think you can no longer go on, that is when God is able to finally take control. People are so wrong (in my humble opinion) when I see the bumper sticker, "God is my Co-Pilot." No, no, no… God is your PILOT and you my brother and sister are along for the ride. God is in control of your every move today, your mind, your thoughts and your feelings. “This is enough, O LORD!”

1 Kings 19:4

How many times have we found ourselves saying this to God, over and over and over again; "Enough, Lord…I can't take it anymore!" We often feel as if we are in a barren desert not finding our way, disgusted with God. It seems as if Elijah did the same thing. This great warrior of God who ran into the desert, out of fear, forsaking all that he knew and understood, found solace under a Broom Tree. A bush in the middle of a barren land that requires little care to flourish, that provides protection and rest. Today your protection and rest lies in something much greater than a Broom Tree… it is the outstretched arms of Jesus Christ. His roots are deep and everlasting, we only need take solace in Him, and He will give us rest this day.

Parish Mission/Revival/Night of Reflections…

Brothers and Sisters, I pray you and your families are well during these most uncertain of economic times. Things have gotten so bad for millions of Americans all over, worse that my Generation (born in the mid 60's) has ever seen or had to suffer through, but we know that 'All Things are Possible' through Christ who is our source of Hope.

I pray that you have been blessed by the daily "Morning Dew" messages I have been trying to provide over the past several weeks and God willing, I will continue to do so. I am glad that through a couple of comments, to know that the Lord has blessed you through the words He has chosen to speak through me, and please know that you all continue to remain in our daily prayers as well as us lifting up your intentions for every Mass we attend; Sunday as well as throughout the week and our devotions.

I would humbly ask your consideration of conducting an Advent Parish Mission; Revival; or even a Night of Reflection for your Parish, within the coming months. I have dedicated my life to serving the Lord, and His People on earth to be able to just give all people some sort of Hope and Solace in these tumultuous times we live in. People are suffering from stress and taking it out in unhealthy ways, on family, drinking, even as we have seen in the news lately with people turning to violence.

The only way out of what we are in, is through Jesus; as you well know He IS the Way, but each of us must also do our part for the kingdom, that the Gospel continue to be proclaimed.

For the remainder of 2009, I (Evangelist Richard Lane) am doing ALL Parish Missions/Revivals and Nights of Reflection for NO STIPEND! I would ask that the inviting Parish take care of expenses for Air Transportation to and from your location, and I am more than willing to stay at the Rectory during my visit. For the remainder of 2009 I am doing these for 'Free Will Love Offerings' ONLY!

I still have open dates for September, October, (not many for November, unless you are in California), as well as open dates for Advent in December.

We also rely on your generosity in a General "Free Will Love Offering" to help us through the daily things in life. You can do so by clicking on THIS FREE WILL LINK and it will take you to a link to donate.

If you would like to help us with a specific concern that we have, please feel free to contact Richard@Qorban.net

Most importantly we would ask for your continued prayers that God will continue to strengthen and guide this Nation we live in and that the millions of people and families that are suffering throughout America, will have some type of Grace sent to them soon.

May God bless you and May God bless the United States of America as well as its leaders.

Remember – "You can't have Victory without a Struggle!" KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!

PS… please pray for the book I am currently writing – The actual writing should be completed within the next two weeks and then the editing process. With the Grace of God, it might go to print before the end of this year – thank you so much for the prayers!

“Nothing will be impossible for you.”

August 8th

Matthew 17:20 – "Nothing will be impossible for you."

Jesus, I am certain was disappointed in His disciples because they had been with Him for so long, had seen so many Glorious works and deeds, but yet they continued to lack Faith. Begin this day by moving a Mountain in your life; the Mountain of Grief, Despair, and Hopelessness; Whatever is in your life that is holding you back from total submission to God; with Faith the size of a Mustard seed, say to that Mountain – MOVE Mountain MOVE! Go forward on this day with confidence and face whatever your fear is and know that Jesus will make a Way out of no way.

Richard Lane, Qorban Ministries – www.CatholicEvangelist.net

“…deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

Matthew 16:24 –

Today you must once again make a choice. Are you going to continue in doing the same things you have always done, or will you deny yourself what seems comfortable and familiar, and live in the Spirit? This is key to what Jesus is trying to communicate to us, in that He knows we are not perfect and are sinful beings and need to change… constantly. Today pick up your Cross and follow in the steps of Jesus. We live not for ourselves but we live for Him, who is the Source and Summit of our existence. We must daily, confess our sins to Him, ask for God's forgiveness, pick up our Cross and follow in the Way; Jesus truly is the Way for all mankind and it is your job to make Him known to all.

“So they kept the matter to themselves…”

Mark 9:10 – "So they kept the matter to themselves…"

Christians tend to keep Jesus hidden in our daily lives, and leave Him in Church, because we don't understand what it is that we really have. Just as Peter, James and his brother John were witnesses to the Transfiguration, Peter say's "Rabbi it is good that we are here!" Jesus also tells them as they were coming down the mountain that they were not to tell anyone of what was seen, until "the Son of Man has risen from the dead." Well, this day you need to tell anyone, everyone, not only has the Son of Man been raised from the dead, HE LIVES! He lives within you and all that you are and do. Remember and reflect on this for the rest of the day… You are, because He IS!

“O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”

Matthew 15:28 - "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish."

In the midst of having her daughter tormented by a demon, a (Canaanite) Woman had faith in knowing that Jesus would heal her daughter, even when Christ questioned her. Perhaps His question was a test of her faith? Her faith was the Bridge she built from the situation she was facing, to the desired outcome of the situation. What torments you and your family, could be construed as a testing of your faith as well. Take this day and humble yourself to the Lord like the Woman, who likened her situation to that of even a dog eating scraps. Our Lord does not treat you like a dog, He loves you. Know today that you belong to the Lord, ask Him to give you the Grace of the Gift of great Faith, and listen for Him to tell you; "…Let it be done for you as you wish." Continue to build your bridge upon the Rock of Faith in Jesus Christ.

Remember… KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!!!

“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Matthew 14:27 - "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."

Even the disciples were afraid during the storm. They had seen the works of Jesus for years and yet, when they felt afraid during the storm they even doubted seeing Him when He was walking toward them. Take courage this day and know that Jesus is not only in the midst of your storm, but invite Him to get into your boat. "Do not be afraid, for I am with you" our Lord tells us so many times, and this day you must decide not to be afraid and know that He IS with you and He will guide you through the storm. Invite Him now into your fear, into your storm, into your situation, ask Him to Guide you and Lead you this day. Jesus said, "Whatever you ask in my name, I will do?" Don't be afraid to ask Him today.

“Jesus withdrew in a boat to be in a deserted place by himself…”

With all the hustle and bustle of daily life, family, many times we fail to find that place that gives us solace and sanctuary in our life. Although fully Divine and fully human, Jesus needed time to grieve, and rejuvenate; to recharge His battery. Find that place, today; that gives you solace, your deserted place to be alone with your thoughts, prayers and with Your Jesus. Yes He is your Jesus and this is your time to strengthen your relationship with Him. If you don't already have a prayer corner in your home, or an enthronement, which is your Worship space, I encourage you to seek one, a place where you can go, be in prayer to Worship our Lord, thanking Him for all He has done and given you… He's waiting!

Parish Missions: They’re Not Just for Lent Anymore

Here is an excerpt of part of an article written on a Parish Mission I gave earlier this year in Southern Maryland, coming to the August 9-22, 2009 edition of the National Catholic Register! Thanks Brother Eddie for the great article!!!

Parish United

The healing effects of a parish mission are not limited to parishioners. Sometimes they reach out and touch entire communities.

Father Scott Woods at St. Peter Claver Church in St. Inigoes, Md., is well aware of this "exponential potential." When he became pastor at this historically black parish last summer, he says, it was a church divided.

"The church was split between one group that was focused on the exteriors of the parish — the music, the preaching and Church history — and those who were there for the faith, the Eucharist and the sacraments," recalls Father Woods.

That all changed when Catholic evangelist Richard Lane, the founder of the St. Louis-based Qorban Ministries (online at Qorban.net), brought his fiery preaching to St. Peter Claver for five nights last fall.

According to Father Woods, the parish had never had a Catholic preacher or priest give a parish mission. Instead, they would have a Protestant minister come in and give a parish revival.

"I told them that if we are going to continue to have a parish mission, we are going to have to have someone who can preach Catholic theology," says Father Woods. "We have lost so many African-American Catholics to Protestant sects. I wanted to help my parishioners to grow spiritually, but in their Catholic faith."

Some parishioners were skeptical and upset that their new pastor had broken with tradition. Even Father Woods admits that he was nervous that his new idea would fail. That was until he heard all the good news that was coming from the first night of the mission.

Father Woods says that, with a well-marked Bible in one hand and an equally noted Catechism of the Catholic Church in the other, Lane made the teachings of the faith and the importance of the sacraments come alive like never before for his parishioners.

"People came out so inspired," says Father Woods. "I have never seen so many of our people from all age groups there. Every night the crowd grew. People were quoting Mr. Lane for weeks afterwards."

By Their Fruits

The fruit from this mission is still blossoming throughout Father Woods' parish. The priest has seen people return to the sacrament of confession. He has introduced Eucharistic adoration and has seen a growing number of new altar boys who are eager to serve.

And, already, the parish is planning to have Lane return for another mission.

Back at the Fathers of Mercy, Father Chris Crotty can't keep up with the number of new requests he's getting for parish missions. He is thankful for all the positive feedback he has gotten from parish after parish. In fact, he says, he can't recall a single serious complaint.

For those who think that a parish mission is just for the highly pious or the "holy rollers," Father Crotty's message is clear: "Get out to a parish mission and meet Christ in his Spirit," and you'll "have a personal encounter with Christ the Wonder-Worker."

The promise applies not just during Lent or Advent. It holds its integrity all year.

“…and be renewed in the spirit of your minds”

Ephesians 4:23

Today is yet a new day, given to you by God. We have ups and downs, highs and lows, but you must again Choose to put on the New Self. No matter what you might have done or not done, God has given you another day, another opportunity to choose Him and to be renewed in your mind, body and soul. It is never too late to begin again; if you choose to take one step toward God, He will take three steps toward you. Choose to put away your old self living for worldly things, and be renewed in your Spirit, "…created in God's way in righteousness and holiness of truth."
